Urgent News concerning Prompt Payment Legislation in Ontario

Dear Readers:

Today we received this request for support for Prompt Payment Legislation in Ontario from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada. They are asking Ontario contractors to sign a petition (below) urging the Ontario government to pass prompt payment legislation currently before the Ontario Legislature. While it has the verbal support of all parties, the government appears to be sitting on it. We think it is important that all contractors involved in new construction support this because, as you all know, getting paid once the job is done can be a struggle. So please click on the link below and sign the petition.

Thank You!

RE: Bill 69-Prompt Payment Act 2013, Ontario

FROM: Richard McKeagan, President

Dear Member:

Most are aware of the existence of Bill 69, The Prompt Payment Act 2013 in Ontario. The Bill has passed second reading in the Ontario legislature and the next process is for it to go to the Standing Committee on Regulations on Private Bills where it will undergo a public consultation process. The Committee stage is an important final step before the Bill can be called to the third and final reading.

The Ontario caucus of the National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada (of which MCA Canada is a founding member) together with other industry organizations in Ontario have developed a petition, the results which will be forwarded on to the Ontario legislature.

If you are a contractor from Ontario, please take just a minute to complete the following petition and submit it by clicking the green "sign" button:

https://ontariopromptpayment.com

If you are a contractor outside of Ontario, you can complete the petition and submit it as well. This will illustrate that the support is Canada wide! The more signatures the better!

This legislation, when it receives Royal Assent, will not only act as a catalyst for other provincial/territorial jurisdictions to act, but will also have a positive impact throughout the construction chain affecting contractors, subcontractors, sub-subcontractors, suppliers, and employees. If you can think of anyone else that should sign this petition, in any of the aforementioned categories, feel free to forward it on to them.

Thanking you in advance!
